Vintage Roses and China Glaze Fifth Avenue

I'm pretty sure we've all seen the vintage rose manicure which usually is done over a Tiffany blue.  I've always admired the look and decided to try it over an existing mani, which is China Glaze Fifth Avenue.  I have a soft spot for "old lady" colors such as this one, haha.

I used two coats of Fifth Avenue over Nailtek II and sealed with OTD.  The next day I added the designs using a bunch of striping polishes.

I used b.s.n. Twisted Ivy and White, Art Club Malmsy, Mint and Lite Pink and Art Deco Baby Pink for the roses, stripes and polka dots.

I just kind of made circular motions, the letter "C" shape, with three different pinks.  Leaves were just kind of sideways dots, made with the length of the striping brush.  It was easier than I thought but the flowers ended up being somewhat abstract in the end.

Dior Ultra Violet and Striping

I wanted to play with my stripers again after my last manicure except this time I added some fun dots to mix it up a bit.

I used Dior Ultra Violet for the base coat, over Orly Bonder and the manicure is sealed with OTD.  Dior bottles are really hard for me to hold right. I'm so used to round bottles!  Two coats of Ultra Violet was all it took to reach opacity; nice formula and application, too!

For the stripes I used Art Deco Baby Pink, b.s.n Golden Closter (??? WTF is a closter?), b.s.n. White and Art Club Lite Pink.  I also used them for the dots with my dotting tools, all except Golden Closter. I can't get over the name. The b.s.n. polishes are some horrific smelling polishes from my local dollar store and they're always misspelled and mislabeled but this one has to be my new favorite.

I drew the lines with the stripers and then staggered dots at the end points, making sure the lines didn't go too far down to the base of my nail.  I'm not sure what I was trying to accomplish but it's difficult to come up with something new, haha.

Valentine's Striping Manicure

I couldn't let my perfectly pink mani go to waste, so I jazzed it up with some stripes!

I used four different striping polishes and left some of the base color, Butter London Snog, show through as well.

I used, from left to right, b.s.n. Planet, Art Deco Baby Pink, Art Club Malmsy and b.s.n. White.  I get the b.s.n. stripers from my local dollar store.

I was inspired by Valentine's Day with the color scheme, even though it's next month.  The whole process of the striping only took about 5 minutes, so it was super easy for a fun finished product.

Butter London Snog Swatches

Another winner here!  This one deserves praise and recognition in regards to its application and formula. Was so smooth, like butter!

"Natural" Light

Snog is a bright magenta creme, done extremely well.  The formula.. it just went on so nicely. Perfect consistency, no pooling or anything.  It was a delight to work with!  I used two coats over NailTek II and sealed with OTD.  This combo lead to a smooth, shiny and vibrant mani that dried super quick.

Orly Velvet Rope Swatches

I feel like every polish I've tried lately has been a winner.  Either I've refined my tastes and choices to the point where I don't pick out stuff that I end up not liking anymore or my horizons have broadened and I just love everything.  Either way, not complaining.

"Natural" Light
Shown is two coats of Velvet Rope, they went on so smoothly too.  I realized this is only my 9th Orly.. where have I been?!  I did something a little differently this time with my treatments.  I got to try some new ones, so far so good!  This is two coats over NailTek II and sealed with Barielle Manicure Extender.  No chips yet, just some tipwear that's painfully visible, sorry.

"Natural" Light

Velvet Rope is a shiny, somewhat metallic, but not entirely rich purple with itty bitty silver glitters mixed in.

Born Pretty Striping Tape Mani and Review

I recently obtained my first striping tapes!  I wasn't sure how easy or difficult they may have been to work with, so I was excited to finally get to play around with some.

I tried a bunch of different designs to get a feel for using them, it was actually super easy and they stick really well without pulling up the polish underneath.  The base color for this manicure was the BK #11 polish I reviewed earlier. I did the designs the next day so the base polish was already set; sometimes I get nail strips/guides that still pick up the polish, ruining the mani - wasn't the case with the striping tape!

I used Finger Paints Black Expressionism and pulled the tape off before the polish dried, which worked for most of the designs, some nails I applied too much black polish on, and it smudged a little.  This was my first attempt though, so some errors were definitely anticipated.

You can use the striping tape to do a negative space type effect, like I did here or you can leave the tape on to use it as an actual design element, which I'm going to show eventually.  The striping tape, which was sent for review, is a set of 12 different colors available HERE

The set of 12 striping tapes is available for 8.99 USD; Also, you can use code CA10L91 for 10% off your order; if enough people use my code I'll be able to host a Born Pretty sponsored giveaway (=

BK Nail Polish Swatch and Review

Born Pretty sent me this beauty for review.  BK#11 is a bright, neon pink jelly. Shown is three coats over Orly Bonder and sealed with Out the Door. See bottom of this post for 10% off coupon code!

Ah it's so squishy! Shown is three coats and there is some slight VNL but I actually stopped at three because I like how it looked. The BK polishes are available HERE although the #11 they have listed is a blue, so I'm not sure which this one is actually supposed to be.  This one is also 7ml and the bottles on the sight are 8ml.  So that confuses me a bit, but I wanted to share this anyway because I was thrilled with the application. It went on smoothly and dried quickly, but also keep in mind this is a neon, which typically dry fast. There were no patches or bald spots/streaks.

There are a ton of other colors in this brand, $2.95 USD for 8ml and free shipping! Also, you can use code CA10L91 for 10% off your order; if enough people use my code I'll be able to host a Born Pretty sponsored giveaway (=

My NYE mani and sale info!

Happy new year, dear readers (= Hope everybody has a wonderful and healthy new year and fresh start if needed.  I'm hosting a sale at the Oopsie Daisies nail polish store for a few days, use code "NEWYEAR13" for 13% off your order!  Happy shopping!

Oopsie Daisies Nail Polish Store

I want to share my NYE mani as well, as it's quickly become one of my favorite combinations ever.  My super thoughtful BFF Brittany showed me a blog with this combination, and I wish I could find the link!  I used the same polishes used in that post.

"Natural" Light

Shown is three coats of OPI Samoan Sand with one coat of MASH Nail Art Polish in Silver over Orly Bonder and sealed with Out the Door.  This MASH polish is labeled as a stamping polish, but I didn't use it as one. It's SUPER dense though and I had to have nearly no polish on the brush to get it so thin.  My hands sparkled subtly all night and I loved it!
